Tororo & Katakwi, Uganda – The State House Local Content Unit has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Uganda’s agricultural transformation following the successful conclusion of the two-day Ekibaro Farming Programme planting season launch in Tororo and Katakwi districts, covering the Bukedi and Teso sub-regions.
The programme, championed by H.E. Jessica Alupo, the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, brought together government leaders, technical experts, development partners, and thousands of farmers to promote commercial agriculture as a pathway to household wealth creation and sustainable economic growth.
The Head of the State House Local Content Unit and Minister, Hon. Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi, joined the Vice President and other national leaders during the launch. She commended the overwhelming support demonstrated by farmers and stakeholders and emphasized the importance of empowering communities through agriculture.
Hon. Mukalazi appreciated Rt. Hon. Oboth Oboth, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Hon. Susan Akello Nakitende (Hon. STanna444), Hon. Peter Ogwang, Hon. Rose Lilly Akello, Hon. Julius Maganda (Echodu Official), Members of Parliament, including Hon. Shyam Tanna, the Director of Operations at Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Ms. Damalie Owori, local leaders, and all farmers whose participation contributed to the success of the programme.
The Ekibaro Farming Programme is designed to transition households from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture by encouraging the cultivation of coffee, cocoa, and bananas as supplementary cash crops across Eastern Uganda. The initiative aligns with the Government of Uganda’s wealth creation agenda by promoting increased agricultural productivity, value addition, and improved household incomes.
As part of its mandate, the State House Local Content Unit continues to support programmes that strengthen local participation in Uganda’s socio-economic development. By promoting sustainable agricultural value chains and empowering local communities, the Unit contributes to the realization of the country’s local content objectives and long-term economic transformation.
The successful launches in Tororo and Katakwi mark another significant milestone in expanding the Ekibaro Farming Programme across Eastern Uganda, with government leaders expressing confidence that the initiative will improve livelihoods and accelerate inclusive development under the “Kisanja No More Sleep” agenda.
