Hon. Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi Meets Zhong Industries Limited to Advance Local Content in Uganda’s Rice Industry

Kampala, Uganda – The Head of the State House Local Content Unit, Hon. Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi, today held discussions with a delegation from Zhong Industries Limited, a private Chinese-owned enterprise, on strengthening local content participation in the company’s expanding investments in Uganda’s rice sector.

The meeting focused on the company’s flagship commercial rice farming project in Kalungu District, where Zhong Industries Limited operates a 3,000-acre paddy rice farm producing the “Zhong Yi” brand of milled rice.

Hon. Mukalazi welcomed the company’s continued investment in Uganda and emphasized the importance of ensuring that such investments create meaningful opportunities for Ugandan enterprises, suppliers, and workers in line with the country’s Local Content agenda.

She noted that the State House Local Content Unit remains committed to fostering stronger partnerships between investors and local businesses to increase the participation of Ugandans in investment projects through procurement, employment, skills development, technology transfer, and value addition.

The discussions also explored opportunities to deepen collaboration across the agricultural value chain, including agro-processing and the company’s planned expansion into Robusta coffee value addition.

Zhong Industries Limited reaffirmed its commitment to Uganda and expressed its readiness to continue working with Government to support sustainable agricultural investment while enhancing local participation in its operations.

The engagement forms part of the State House Local Content Unit’s ongoing efforts to ensure that investments in Uganda generate lasting benefits for citizens by promoting local enterprise development and strengthening linkages between investors and Ugandan businesses.
