State House Local Content Unit Engages Sheema Wine Makers In Masheruka Town Council, Sheema Municipality

The State House Local Content Unit held a strategic engagement meeting with local wine producers operating in Sheema District, reaffirming Government’s commitment to supporting value addition, strengthening community agro-processing enterprises, and enhancing local economic empowerment.

The meeting, held on July 25, 2025, brought together wine-making groups under the Sheema Wine Makers Union, including:

  • Beika Wine
  • Couples Wine
  • Robbins Wine
  • Golden Sweet Wine
  • Women Farmers Wine

The groups are united under their umbrella leadership chaired by Mr. Eldard Kayogo, who represented the collective interests of wine producers in the area as they continue to expand production and improve product quality.

The State House Local Content Unit was represented by Mr. Moses Nyabakwini, the Unit Private Secretary, who commended the Sheema wine makers for their resilience, innovation, and contribution to local enterprise development. He emphasized Government’s dedication to helping local producers tap into available opportunities and comply with the national agenda on local content promotion.

“Our aim as the Local Content Unit is to ensure that Local producers like you can grow, access markets, and benefit fully from the available support systems. What you are doing here in Sheema is exactly what we want to see replicated across the country—adding value, creating jobs, and building local wealth,” Mr. Nyabakwini noted.

Mr. Kayogo, on behalf of the wine makers, expressed gratitude for the State House’s continued engagement and requested further technical guidance, capacity-building opportunities, and support in navigating standards and certification processes to expand their market reach.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration between the Local Content Unit and Sheema’s wine-making groups, focusing on:

  • Product quality improvement
  • Access to certification and standards bodies
  • Skills development
  • Market linkages
  • Sustainable value-chain support
