While addressing the media at Parliament following her appearance before the Appointments Committee, SPA Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi, the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Privatization and Investment)-designate, outlined key priorities aimed at strengthening Uganda’s investment climate and promoting sustainable economic growth.
SPA Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi emphasized the importance of enhanced coordination among government agencies and other stakeholders to eliminate unnecessary delays in the investment process. She noted that efficient stakeholder engagement is critical in addressing bottlenecks that affect investors and in curbing investor-related fraud.
“We must ensure that investors are served efficiently and that unnecessary delays within the investment chain are addressed through effective collaboration among all relevant institutions,” she stated.
The Minister-designate also reaffirmed the commitment of her office to environmental sustainability, revealing that continued collaboration with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) will remain a priority. She explained that such cooperation will help ensure that investment projects comply with environmental regulations and do not encroach on protected ecosystems, including wetlands.
In addition, SPA Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi highlighted the significance of enforcing local content policies, regulations, and guidelines. She noted that strengthening local content compliance is essential for ensuring that investments generate meaningful benefits for Ugandans, contribute to local economic growth, and promote long-term self-sustainability.
The Head of the State House Local Content Unit further shared insights from her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee and expressed confidence in her ability to deliver impactful results if entrusted with the portfolio. She assured the public of her commitment to advancing Uganda’s investment and privatization agenda through transparency, efficiency, and stakeholder collaboration.
Her remarks underscore a broader commitment to fostering a conducive investment environment that promotes responsible investment, environmental protection, local participation, and sustainable economic development.
