Hon. Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi Meets Polish Investors Exploring Textile Recycling Investment in Uganda

Hon. Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi today hosted a delegation from VIVE Textile Recycling, a leading Polish company with over 30 years of experience in industrial textile recycling, to discuss potential investment opportunities in Uganda’s recycling and manufacturing sector.

The delegation, led by Mr. Yasser K. Ahmed, presented the company’s innovative technologies that convert textile waste, plastics, and other recyclable materials into a wide range of value-added products. These include recycled textiles, recovered metals, and specialized materials used in marine applications, hydrological projects, and embankment reinforcement, among other industrial uses.

During the meeting, Hon. Mukalazi emphasized the importance of ensuring that the proposed investment delivers tangible benefits to Ugandans. She encouraged the investors to prioritize the employment of local people, facilitate technology transfer, and maximize the sourcing of raw materials from within Uganda wherever possible.

The Hon. Minister further assured the delegation of government’s commitment to supporting strategic investments through incentives provided under existing laws, including applicable tax exemptions and access to suitable industrial park space. She also pledged effective coordination with relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to facilitate a smooth investment process from establishment to operation.

The meeting was attended by Mr. John Byaruhanga, Commissioner for Tax Policy at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Mr. Mark Amanya, Senior Economist at the Ministry, who welcomed the proposed investment and commended its potential contribution to Uganda’s industrialization agenda; and Mr. Samuel Kiyingi, Principal Economist at the Ministry of Finance.

The proposed investment aligns with Uganda’s industrialization and circular economy ambitions by promoting value addition, sustainable waste management, environmental protection, job creation, and the growth of local manufacturing. It also reinforces the country’s commitment to attracting investments that advance technology, enhance local content, and strengthen Uganda’s position as a competitive destination for sustainable industrial development.
