Discussions explored investment opportunities across the agricultural value chain, covering modern farming technologies, agricultural inputs, produce aggregation, storage, processing, packaging and distribution. These areas present opportunities for investors to participate in transforming Uganda’s agricultural production into quality, competitive and higher-value products for domestic, regional and international markets.

Investment in agro-processing and agricultural value addition is particularly important in strengthening the link between agricultural production and industrial development. Expanding processing capacity can help reduce post-harvest losses, improve the utilisation of locally produced raw materials, create reliable markets for farmers and increase the supply of finished and semi-finished products.

The development of these value chains also presents opportunities for technology transfer, skills development, employment creation and increased participation of Ugandan enterprises in industrial production and supply chains.

Through the engagements, Uganda continues to position its industrial parks as investment destinations for enterprises seeking opportunities in manufacturing, agro-processing and related industries. Partnerships with Chinese investors could contribute to expanding production capacity, introducing modern technologies and strengthening the competitiveness of Uganda’s agricultural and manufactured products.

The engagements also highlight the importance of linking foreign investment to local content priorities, including the utilisation of locally available raw materials, employment of Ugandans, development of local suppliers and transfer of relevant skills and technology.

Uganda’s engagement with Chinese investors in Sichuan forms part of broader efforts to attract productive investment that supports agricultural transformation, industrial growth and the development of competitive value chains.
