The National Coffee Farmers Empowerment Programme has today been successfully launched in Rushebeya, Rwamucucu Sub County, Rukiga District, marking a significant milestone in Uganda’s journey toward agricultural transformation and wealth creation.
The event was officiated on behalf of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni by the Vice President, H.E. Jessica Alupo, who commended the initiative for its strong focus on empowering farmers and improving household incomes. She emphasized that such programs are vital in driving economic inclusion and urged communities across the country to embrace and support them.
In his message delivered by the Vice President, President Museveni appreciated the efforts behind the programme, noting that it aligns with the government’s long-standing vision of promoting agriculture as a key pillar for wealth creation. He called upon wananchi to actively participate, support, and warmly welcome such initiatives that directly uplift livelihoods at the grassroots.
The programme, spearheaded with support from the State House Local Content Unit, is designed to equip farmers with modern agricultural knowledge, provide access to quality coffee seedlings, and strengthen market linkages. It builds on earlier farmer sensitization and training activities, demonstrating a practical and people-centered approach to agricultural development.
Speaking at the launch, the Head of the State House Local Content Unit highlighted that the initiative is aimed at ensuring that local communities actively benefit from national development programmes. She underscored the importance of continuous support to sustain the programme, including ongoing farmer training, timely provision of inputs, and effective monitoring to guarantee long-term impact.
Farmers were encouraged to embrace modern farming practices, properly manage the inputs provided, and work collectively to ensure the success of the programme. Leaders and stakeholders were also called upon to continue mobilizing communities and guiding implementation efforts.
The National Coffee Farmers Empowerment Programme is expected to play a key role in transitioning farmers from subsistence to commercial agriculture, ultimately contributing to poverty reduction and national economic growth.
As Uganda continues to prioritize agriculture-led development, today’s launch stands as a strong step toward empowering farmers and transforming communities across the country.
