On March 25, 2025, the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, hosted the Muslim community for an Iftar dinner as they approached the end of the holy month of Ramadhan. The event highlighted the role of religion in national development, with the President emphasizing the long-standing message of unity that the Muslim community has championed in Uganda.

The President’s Message on Economic Empowerment

During his address, the President commended the Muslim leaders for embracing the Parish Development Model (PDM), aligning with Islamic financial principles. He reiterated that the PDM is not a loan fund, but rather a revolving initiative designed to uplift citizens from poverty. He clarified that the small percentage deducted from the funds is only intended to maintain the value of the UGX 1,000,000 allocated per beneficiary in case of depreciation. The Muslim leadership appreciated the initiative, affirming that it does not constitute Riba (interest), in accordance with the Qur’an.
